Golden Rule for Houseguests:
NEVER show up empty handed.
While this may have been an unwritten law once upon a time, it’s practically been added to federal legislature. Show up to every doorstep with a bottle of wine or champagne in hand. The hostess will almost always say, “Aww you shouldn’t have,” which is actually code for, “I approve of you as a human being and you are allowed seconds of the dessert.” Go the extra mile and arrive with yummy goodies, like a Vermeil Corta Candle or sweet treats for the host’s kiddos. Something small to thank the family for welcoming you into their home does not go overlooked, TRUST ME.
Here are some ideas of what to bring hostesses for different occasions:
Meet the Parents: Focus on the Mom! See my Best Scents for Mom, anything off this list will have her raving about you!
House Warming: Go big or go (back) home. Moving is a huge deal! Celebrate your hostess with an amazing candle like our Grande Maison. Every time they light it, they’ll think about what a great guest you were, and how awesome your gift is!
Weekend Visitor: Bring a gift set. It’s compact enough for your suitcase or duffle bag where space is limited, but it’s packaging / collection of multiple fragrances is extremely impressive! Try our Japonica Archive Gift Set!
Golden Rules for Hosts:
Greet Your Guests.
First impressions are EVERYTHING. We all know that hours are spent planning and prepping for your soirée, but don’t overlook the “simplest” task of opening the door and greeting someone new into your home. Yes, your perfectly curated charcuterie board will wow your guests, but the first few moments as they enter is all the time they need to formulate an opinion about your home – no matter how damn delicious those prosciutto wrapped asparagus are.
As you greet your guests with a killer outfit and smile, your home is simultaneously greeting them too. Aside from achieving a photo-shoot ready interior, your home should smell incredible as well – it’s a great first and lasting impression.
Here are some ideas of how to use Fragrance as a Party Host:
Select a scent: See my post about Scents for Summer for fragrance suggestions this time of year.
Create Ambiance: Placing the candles throughout your home adds instant ambiance. I recommend clusters of candles on tabletops and in your entrance areas.
Remember the Bathrooms: Make sure you have a diffuser posted somewhere in each bathroom to ensure continuous freshness.
Freshen up your linens: Freshen your guest room(s) and linens in an instant with a VOLUSPA Room & Body Spray. Spritz unused linens, towels and sheets for a quick pick-me-up that smells fresh and clean!
